How do I delete COOKIE information on the 'index.dat' file (in the COOKIES folder on my c:/ drive)?

I do my share of net surfing at the office (nothing risque) and regularly delete all TEMPORARY internet files and COOKIES from my C:/ drive. What i can't figure out is how to get all of the same info out of the index.dat files in the same folders? I'm not even sure what they information provides to any "Spying Eyes" on my system, but I can see that it notes the address of all of the sites that i've visited. (FYI: i'm an average user of computers and not a whiz so keep it simple!)

How do I delete COOKIE information on the 'index.dat' file (in the COOKIES folder on my c:/ drive)?
.

DELETE COOKIES

1. Open cookies window

Click Internet Explorer TOOLS %26gt; Internet Options

2. Click Temp Internet Files frame %26gt; button Settings

3. Click button VIEW FILES

4. In the Cookies window, click index.dat file %26gt;

5. Click tool bar button EDIT %26gt; select Invert selection

6. click FILE button %26gt; select DELETE

Reply:As far as I know you can't without 'third party' software. Even using third party software it is not deleted until you reboot the system.

Seach on yahoo or google for 'Free index.dat removal software'. There are many programs that can do this.
Reply:Here's a link to software that supposedly opens .dat files. I don't know much about it, or what it costs, but you can look into possibly using it.

Reply:CCleaner is a freeware program that wipes out the index.dat file. Chow

If I right click my C drive on my computer and press format will it delete the files I need to run the comuter

what I am asking is if I press format on my c drive when I right click it will it also delete all the files I need to run the computer on the c drive becaus ethere is some files on the c drive that you need to run the computer

what will formatting it exactly do and my computer will be usable if i fomat the c drive right?????

If I right click my C drive on my computer and press format will it delete the files I need to run the comuter
you cant format a drive you are currently using. If the drive was a secondary %26amp; slaved to the c drive you could. So in other words no. Are you trying to mess someones computer up? ;)
Reply:Yes it will delete those files and no your computer will not be useable and your computer will most likely not let you just format that drive it will bring up some error messages but no your computer wont work if you format your c drive which is your hard drive in case you didnt know that
Reply:it will not format the drive because the hard drive is in use... you can only format something as long as NO programs are being run from it.. explorer.exe should ALWAYS be running from your hard drive... if you try to format it, it will come up with an error message saying to close all programs that may be using it

IT WILL NOT FORMAT YOUR HARD DRIVE QUIT SAYING IT WILL

if you dont believe me try it... i aleady have plenty of times

if you did format it it would wipe all the data from the hard drive
Reply:Yes, it'll delete important stuff, too. Probably will prevent you from booting.

Formatting essentially removes all the information that tells Windows where stuff is on your hard drive. Although the data may still be there, Windows will no longer be able to find it.
Reply:Format is like you want to turn down a room, first thing to do is get out of it. you have to be out of drive c: to format c:.
Reply:YES THIS WILL ERASE YOUR DATA DO NOT DO IT IF YOU ARE NOT SKILLED WITH A COMPUTER !!!!
Reply:Curious, aren't you? Do you need to format it? It won't format 'cause you are using it. Why do you ask?
Reply:maybe
Reply:DO NOT DO IT. IT WILL COMPLETELY ERASE THE DRIVE AND THERE IS NO NEED TO FORMAT IT!
Reply:You dont want to do that. Formatting it will mean deleting all the files in your computer, and I am mean ALL the files. Formatting a drive comes when a new installation of windows is going to be done on a drive or whena partition or whole disk will be used for storage. Maybe you are trying to defregment your disk? Do not, I repeat, DO NOT format it unless you want to be without a computer!

I hope that helps
Reply:it will erase your data!!!
Reply:Formatting will wipe out your hard drive and leave the boot sector intact. All you will have left are the files for running the hard drive, no OS or your personal files. You will have a blank hard drive
Reply:If C drive is where you run your operating system from you cannot reformat that way. You have to do it from bios. You can boot off a windows CD for example and you will have an option to reformat your C drive. But if you do reformat EVERYTHING will be deleted.
Reply:Your compuer will not easily let you format your C:\ drive because your computer will for all intents and purposes become unusable. Make sure you have software to reinstall your system if you go ahead.

I want to make a program in C that can delete, add a record edit, search and view in a database?

Ok go right ahead. You're not really asking a question dude. I think you're trying to ask how to do what your saying you want to do - maybe?

If that's the case the answer is simple. Learn how to program or hire someone who does.

How to write a program in c that will delete itself after execution?

Here is a hint. argv[0] contains the name of the executable file:

int main(int argc,char *argv[])

{

printf("I am %s\n",argv[0]);

}

What is c*m? Please dont delete..?

Im not trying to offend anyone but am asking quite seriously. I know its a "female ejaculation" but like what is it, as in, whats it made of kinda thing? And also, does EVERY girl c*m at climax? Or is it normal to just orga.sm?

Asking seirously so dont delet plz

What is c*m? Please dont delete..?
Every answer leads to more questions, I think you're going to want to read up on this stuff seriously. http://www.scarleteen.com/ is a good web site on sex ed, it's honest, no lies and won't just try and scare you.
Reply:It's vaginal fluid. Used for lubrication of the vagina during sexual activity. Unfortunately a lot of women never experience ORGASM. The female Orgasm involves a 'wave' of emotions that reverberates throughout your whole body.

So, no, it's not _identical_ to C*M.

Depending on what you're engaging in can help you determine the difference! Especially once you finally DO experience an ORGASM!

Good luck and practice SAFE sex!

Reply:The natural discharge you have when you start puberty increases with sexual arousal - getting wet. Even though most girls to not have a female ejaculation, when a girl has an orgasm it is commonly referred to as cumming.

The expelled or released fluid is not urine, it is an alkaline liquid secreted by the paraurethral (alongside the urethra) glands. The paraurethral glands produce an enzyme called prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP), along with prostate-specific antigen (PSA). Skene's gland also produces Human Protein 1, a trait formerly believed to be unique to the male prostate.

Studies have found that: 54-60% of women have experienced emission of fluid at orgasm, with 6% reporting that they regularly ejaculate in a forceful manner, and an additional 13% stating that they have done so infrequently.
Reply:Not all women can or do ejaculate. Yes they do become very wet in the vagina are too which helps for penetration of the male penis or if she is so inclined to use toys. Some become more than others. It is from my understanding a fluid produced with in the body, unlike males to which have a prostate and makes a fluid that sperm is in from the testicles. Women produce another substance, some have always felt it was urine and test have been done showing that is not so. Mnay women do not follow through with a good O, they have said they felt liek they was going to pee, which in truth they were very close to haveing a good O, so they need to let it go and leran wht it is like not be afraid of it, they are not going to pee, if you are so afraid of that put a towel down or do it in the shower.

What are you trying to delete ? May be you can contact a C expert at website like http://askexpert.info/
Reply:It depends on what you want to delete. Deleting a pointer (though is not technically true because you only reallocate the pointer to NULL), you would need the 'dalloc' function. This most times is to prevent memory leak in programs.

What is the function in c language to delete a line from text file??

There is no such function in the standard C library.

Open the file for reading

Open an output file for writing.

Read the first file, line at a time. If it's not the line you want to delete, write the line to the output file.

Close both files.

Change the name of the first file to something else.

Change the name of the second file to the original name of the first file.

Then and ONLY then is it safe to delete the original file.

Can someone give the visual c++ code to delete a particular content in a file?
You have not specified anywhere near enough information.

- what type of content (text? formatted text? binary?)

- remove from the content from the beginning? end? middle?

- how to identify the content to remove (vs. what to leave)?

- can we make a copy of the file, or must this operation be done in-place (i.e. on the original file)?

Can i safely delete some files in the Temp folder of my C:/ drive?

I found a ton of old photos i had already put onto CD's in my TEMP folder located in the following ---

C:\Documents and Settings\KINOVA\Local Settings\Temp

Is it safe to delete them to free up more space and whats up with the TEMP folder in general? Is is safe to delete more junk in there??

I'm trying to clean up my computer cause its running out of space so if anyone has any other suggestions for this please send them along!

Can i safely delete some files in the Temp folder of my C:/ drive?
Yeah you can for sure delete those files. All the temp folder does is store some files for use by some applications ,or, some temp files are created when a program is installed. It's fine to delete them and in fact Windows is supposed to do it automatically but sometimes it misses a few or forgets. And actually if you don't delete your temp files it can lead to problems in the future.

Here's a site that tells you the best way to delete all the temp files on you machine.
Reply:Yes, I delete things from my "TEMP" all the time.. TEMP .. Temp internet..

(Trojan-Downloader.HTML.Agent.... how to delete this virus?

Download A-Squared Free here http://www.emsisoft.de/en/software/free/ And it will remove the trojan.

You also need an antivirus app, i highly recomend Avira Antivir PE, which is also Free. You can get it here http://www.free-av.com/

(Trojan-Downloader.HTML.Agent.... how to delete this virus?
The particular thing you are looking to get rid of is in your Temporary Internet File and you can rid yourself of it by clearing them...but I advise you run some of the scanners mentioned by the above 2 posters. No doubt, other nasties came with it.

I do not recommend A-Squared because it spits out to many false positives.

AntiVir is an excellent AV with powerful heuristics scanning if you do not already have an AV installed or AVG would also be a good choice.

* Drops more malware

* Downloads code from the internet

* Exploits system or software vulnerabilities

Follow the 3 steps

(1) Get you self a good antivirus or a free one .

(2) If you have not already scanned your comp with Spybot do that now .Update it and then run it so it gets rid of all the spyware and trojans

(3) Do an online virus scan to check if you still have any other viruses in your computer. And let us know if the online virus scan still finds any virus or spyware .

What is the C File Function to delete a letter say, 'A' in a File. Anything like fgetc, fputc etc?

I have developed a program for Bitstuffing. It scans for characters from a file, and if it encounters five 1's continuously, it will append a '0' after it and write to a new file. This concept is called Bit Stuffing. Now, I need to know how to remove that '0' in the file I wrote.

==##CODE ##==

FILE *fp1,*fp2; //Couple of File pointers

int i=0; //Counter

char c; //variable to get char from File

fp1=fopen("bit.txt","r"); //Open file in Read mode

fp2=fopen("b1.txt","w");//Open file in Write mode

while(!feof(fp1))

{

c=fgetc(fp1); //scan char by char till EOF

if(c=='1') i+=1;

else if(c=='0') i=0;

fputc(c,fp2);

if(i==5)

{

fputc('0',fp2); //append 0 after five 1s and reset i

i=0;

}

fclose(fp1);

fclose(fp2);

==## END OF CODE ##==

bit.txt content: 111111

b1.txt content: 1111101

How to remove that 0?

Help would be much appreciaited.

What is the C File Function to delete a letter say, 'A' in a File. Anything like fgetc, fputc etc?
Try this method:

1) Read b1.txt

2) Check for five 1's write the contents of b1.txt into a new file temp.txt

3) Once you have written it . delete b1.txt

4) rename temp.txt as b1.txt

Program

fp3=fopen("temp.txt","w");

rewind(fp2);

i=0;

while(!feof(fp2))

{

if (i%26lt;=5)

{

c=fgetc(fp2);

fputc(c,fp3);

if (c==1)

i++;

if(i==5)

i=0;

}

}

fclose(fp2);

fclose(fp3);

remove("b1.txt");

rename("temp.txt","b1.txt");

How do you clean out your (C) drive and delete things out your (C) drive.?

How do you clean out your (C) drive and delete things out your (C) drive.?
You need to be a little more specific about what you are trying to do. Do you want to completely clean off your C drive or just delete some specific files?

In C++, how do you delete the last node from a dynamic linked list and set it to NULL?

If I call the destructor of a dynamic linked list of three or more nodes,

else if (head != NULL)

{

NodeType* currentPtr;

while (head-%26gt;link != NULL)

{

currentPtr = head;

while (currentPtr-%26gt;link != NULL)

{

currentPtr = currentPtr-%26gt;link;

}

delete currentPtr;

currentPtr = NULL;

}

delete head;

head = NULL;

}

What I observe is that currentPtr gets deleted as well as the last node, but while currentPtr gets set to NULL, the last node remains as garbage.

How can I also set the last node to null?

In C++, how do you delete the last node from a dynamic linked list and set it to NULL?
It looks like you are trying to delete the entire list. You have to save next before deleting current. You don't set the last node to NULL. You just delete it.

Try this

NodeType* currentPtr;

NodeType* nextPtr = head;

while (nextPtr != NULL)

{

currentPtr = next;

nextPtr = currentPtr-%26gt;link;

delete currentPtr;

}

If you want to delete a specific node, you have to know the one to delete and the one before it.

NodeType* currentPtr;

NodeType* prevPtr;

// find current and previous however it suits you

// such that prevPtr-%26gt;link points to current

// This steps takes the current node out of the list

prevPtr-%26gt;link = currentPtr-%26gt;link;

// then delete it

delete currentPtr;

// If current was the last node, current-%26gt;link would be null.

// The assignment prevPtr-%26gt;link = currentPtr-%26gt;link would make

// prevPtr-%26gt;link null automatically.

Some C++ pointer and dynamic memory help please!? How do I delete a struct?

I am trying to make a linked data type in C++ which acts like array, but is a linked structure made up of nodes, where each node knows the next and previous node, there for linking it.

so say I had a linked data type of X, ( I am doing this in a class), how do I delete a node?

template %26lt;typename Type%26gt;

//is the front so it is null

front-%26gt;previousNode-%26gt;nextNode = NULL;

Node%26lt;Type%26gt;* temp = front;

delete front;

// is this deleting the pointer front?

//or actually the node the front points to, and deleting the data, and the pointers to the next and previous node?

front = temp-%26gt;previousNode;

delete temp;

--size;

}

void X::insert(){

Some C++ pointer and dynamic memory help please!? How do I delete a struct?
Ok, you can find a good description of linked lists here:

http://www.inversereality.org/tutorials/...

It highlights every aspect including deleting.
Reply:The easy answer to your question is to use STL lists. They do exactly what you want and are efficient and reliable. But that doesn't help you do it for a class.

The way you're implementing this, you don't ever want to delete the item itself. This is because your list structure has a copy of the item (Type data) instead of a pointer to the data (Type * data). If you do it this way (the hard way), you will want to use the following algorithm:

1. When inserting an item into your list, create a new element (a * listItem = new a) then copy the data in (a.data = dataToInsert). If you want to support lists of items with non-default constructors you should do both in one line (a * listItem = new a(dataToInsert)) which means you'll want a constructor for your class that takes a reference to the new data.

2. Insert the item into the list.

3. When removing, don't try to delete data. You can't. Delete the whole thing (delete listItem) once you're sure no previous or next pointers are pointing to it.

An easier way is to make data a pointer to your type. (Type * data instead of Type data). In this case, you'd follow the algorithm above with the following differences: First, it's easier to create a link item because you don't have to worry about whether you can create an empty data object. Create the item, then create a new data object using the copy constructor (this is important, otherwise you don't know when it's safe to delete it later. Create a copy, then you can delete it whenever you need). Second, before you delete your struct, delete the data it holds.

Incidentally, if you are creating a stack (only adding/removing from the front), there's no need for a doubly-linked list. You only need a "next" pointer. Add and remove from the head.

Here's a 25-cent overview of new and delete:

1. When you allocate memory by using new, you are responsible for deleting it. The corrolary of that is, never use delete on something you didn't "new", such as a local variable.

2. Never delete an object that something is still pointing to

3. Never delete something twice

4. Never reference memory you've deleted

5. If you allocate using new[] (for allocating arrays) delete using delete[].

Good luck.
Reply:templates are difficult concept. may be you can contact a C++ expert. Check websites like http://askexpert.info/

In c++, how would u delete a node from a linked list?

ok so im supposed to delete a user specified node from a list of 10 nodes. I can locate the node but how would i actually delete it? I like dymanic arrays but sometimes r a pain cause of pointers :(

In c++, how would u delete a node from a linked list?
In general you will

1. Point the previous node at the next node

2. If it's a doubly linked list point the next node at the previous node

3. Destroy the current node, being sure to delete and release all allocated memory.

What are the differences between destructor and delete operator in C++?

C++

What are the differences between destructor and delete operator in C++?
You have to differentiate between objects created dynamically on the heap

with the 'new' operator, and objects created on the stack in a scope.

Using the delete operator instructs the program to call the destructor of

the class and then free the memory for the object. Objects that simply go

out of scope implicitely have the same process performed on them.
Reply:destructor is a method in C++ which is executed when the object is no longer used.

delete is an operator which is used to free the memory occupied by a variable.

In destructors we use delete to free up the memory of the variable.

Write c program to delete an element in 1-D array at specific location?

Basically what you have to do is start at the element you want to delete and shift every element after it over one, then set the last element to nothing. This will effectively delete that element. And no, I'm not going to write the code for you. It shouldn't be that hard to do.

I agree with Kirin, but I'd also like to suggest GriSoft AVG: http://www.grisoft.com/

The cleaning the virus may not fix the partition problem, so once you do the virus scan, I'd post again for help on partitioning - but you can do that with a 3d party program, or even one of the embeded Windows programs...but from the sounds of it, with only 100 megs total, I'd say you have an old computer, and probably an old version of Windows? Make sure you download a virus program that will work with the version of Windows you have.

If you do have XP, go to Control Panel --%26gt; Administrative Tools --%26gt; Computer Management --%26gt; Disk Management after you're done with the Virus scanning %26amp; cleaning.

I need to know how to delete partition between C & D drives.?

I can't add any more programs cuz I have 0 free space. I am using Windows XP. i have lots of free space in D cuz my puter puts everything in C. I can't even defrag cuz there isn't enuf memory. I KNOW ZIP BOUT PUTERS. If you can help then I need very specific step by step instructions. THANKS MUCH.

I need to know how to delete partition between C %26amp; D drives.?
either :

1) search on google for partitioning programs n use one of them. (can sometimes go wrong n wreck you computer, not often but sometimes)

2) wipe the computer, delete both partitions n create a new partition using all the HDD (easier then it sounds) then reinstall XP (WARNING: would lose everything on computer this way)

3) utilise the D drive, when installing programs your given the option where you install programs jsut change the C at the beginning to a D, tis very helpful to have a D drive with important files on, it means if anything goes wrong with windows your files on the D drive are still safe.

i would say keep it and just use it to store whatever on.
Reply:mm maybe u can use partition magic, it is a program which allow u to arrange your hd capacity (partition)
Reply:There is a program called Partition Magic made by Samantec. you can join the 2 partitions together to create a single partition without loosing files.

Another program would be Acronis True Image.
Reply:Install another operating system in the second partition, then boot from it.

Can I delete the File: IEXPLORE.EXE-27122324.pf & delete the Folder: C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch?

My Windows XP has three seperate iexplore.exe files.

If I try to open IEXPLORE.EXE-27122324.pf I receive a message saying, "Windows cannot open this file. Windows needs to know what application created it. Click to search for an application."

When I try to open the other two files I receive a message that these files are part of the OS %26amp; should not be opened.

If I delete the first file will this eliminate the problem or just create new problems?

Can I delete the File: IEXPLORE.EXE-27122324.pf %26amp; delete the Folder: C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch?
The Prefetch folder contains information regarding the optimal disk layout of program files so they launch quicker. You may delete all those files, but XP will rebuild that folder so that your computer runs as efficiently as possible. After deleting the prefetch files, your computer's performance will suffer slightly until the prefetch folder is rebuilt. It takes approximately three computer reboots to properly rebuild the prefetch folder contents.

Can I delete/change my C:/ Drive?

After removing one of my hard drives, I looked in My Computer to notice that the C:/ drive, the one I removed is still there. Even worse, is that some programs that I try to use automatically use this drive to install. However, my D:/ drive is the one I want it to install to. Is there a way to fix/change this?

Can I delete/change my C:/ Drive?
If you've phyiscaly removed the drive from the computer, it shouldn't be there. You will need to re-install the programs to run from another drive.
Reply:Your C:/ drive is probably still showing up because even though you uninstalled it, it's drivers are probably still there. If you want to install something to a different disc, you just need to start the installation process, and when it prompts you to choose an installation directory, you need to manually go through my computer and click on the D:/ drive, where you could create a folder to install a program into. Best of luck!
Reply:i beleive that is something that's decided when you first start the computer, I don't think that's changeable.

if the c drive is the one that you assigned your hard drive to, you are most likely stuck with that.

How do i put a older os in my pc i cant delete the current one can anyone tell me how to delete my c:?
search for Gparted after doing a backup of anything important and then after erasing everything with gparted insert the old OS cd and boot your pc with it
Reply:Boot off of the old OSes cd or floppy. As you progress through the installation; it will ask you to partition your drive. When you do that, select the "C" partiton (probaly the only there) and delete it. Then it is gone and you could continue the installation.

You could all use the tool gparted to delete the partition:

http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
Reply:Just insert the OS disk and in the setup options install the os over the old os
Reply:To reinstall Windows, you will need a Startup Diskette and a Windows Installation CD.

Download it from here:

http://www.whitecanyon.com/makestartupdi...

1. Once you have your Startup Diskette, insert it into the floppy drive and restart your computer.

2. Select option #1 - Start the computer with CD-ROM support.

3. After a minute or so, you will see "A:%26gt;_".

4. Type "fdisk" and press Enter.

5. If asked to enable large disk support, select Y for Yes. (Note: Some versions of Windows 95 may not be compatible with large disk support. Select N here if it does not support the FAT32 file system.)

6. Select Option #1 - Create DOS partition or Logical DOS Drive.

7. Select Option #1 - Create Primary DOS Partition.

8. The drive integrity will be verified.

9. Unless you are planning to make multiple partitions, select Y when asked if you want to use the maximum available size for the partition and to make the partition active.

10. The drive integrity will be verified again.

11. When completed press the Esc key to exit fdisk.

12. Without removing the floppy disk, press the reset button on the computer or press the keys Ctrl then Alt then Delete and release them together. This will restart the computer.

13. Again, select the option to Start the computer with CD-ROM support.

14. When you see A:%26gt;, directly above it is a message about your CD-ROM drive. It will tell you the letter assigned to your CD-ROM drive, take note of it. The screen will look something like this:

15. At the A:%26gt;, type "format C:" and press Enter.

16. Press the Y key then the enter key when asked if you want to proceed with the format.

17. The format will probably take some time, so be patient.

18. You will be asked to choose a Volume Label, which is a name for your hard drive. It has no effect on the operation of your computer, you may choose any name you like.

Hope that helps,

Is it ok to delete all the files in the temp folder in drive c windows folder?

what other files can i delete to make more space in drive c?

Is it ok to delete all the files in the temp folder in drive c windows folder?
Yes you can delete temporary files to get some extra space...

For Deleting temporary files follow these steps:

As you use your computer, many temporary files are saved in the Window's Temp folder.

Clearing this will delete unnecessary files, resulting in better performance. To clear the TEMP folder:

1) Close all running programmes.

2) Click on the Start menu on start up bar.

3) Click on Programmes menu.

4) Click on Windows Explorer menu item.

5) Locate your C:\Windows\Temp folder directory.

6) Select and delete all files from C:\Windows\Temp folder directory.

Deleting temporary Internet files

Just as using the computer leads to temporary files being stored, browsing the Internet also leads to the accumulation of unwanted data. To get rid of this:

1) Run your Web browser programme.

2) Click on upper Tools option from menu bar.

3) Select the Internet Options... item from Tools drop-down menu.

4) Select General tab of Internet Options dialogue box.

5) Click on the Clear History button.

6) Click on the Delete Files... button.

7) Click on the Delete all offline content check box (for ticked symbol) of the Delete Files dialogue box.

8) Click on the OK button to delete selected files %26amp; close Delete Files dialogue box.

9) Click on the Delete Cookies Command button.

10) Click on the OK button to delete them

11) Click on the OK button to close Internet Options dialogue box.

12) Click on File option on menu bar of Internet Explorer and select Close item from File drop-down menu to exit.

If you can't delete it then the file is in use by a program. Restarting your computer and then trying to delete it should work.
Reply:Restart the computer and then try deleting it.
Reply:I have dealt with this before.

The best way to delete this file is to use a software uninstaller such as Advanced Uninstaller pro.

Once it is installed, temorarily move all the contents of the temp folder to another folder that your create and name.

Then, while the temp folder is open and you can still see the un-deleteable file, right click on the undeleteable file.

Select open with.

In the open with file tree, go to C, my computer, program files, Innovative solutions, Advanced Uninstaller PRO 2006 version 7, and highlight uninstaller.exe. click open

It will give you several selections as what to do.

Select the middle selection which deletes the temp folder and everything in it.

When it has deleted the temp folder and everything in it, simple right click in a white area of the documents and settings folder, go to new, folder. Name this new folder Temp. Go to the temporary folder that houses your previous temp contents and move them to your new temp file.

voila, your undeleteable file is gone to the wastebasket.
Reply:If you want delete some files which are running, download one software named "Unlocker". After installing this, you can right-click on the file, unlock it, then do what ever you need. But use this carefully, as this can corrupt system files

How do I access FDISK to delete the C: partition?

I am aware of the fact that FDISK wipes the drive clean...this is precisely what I want to do. Thanks in advance...

How do I access FDISK to delete the C: partition?
Fdisk is part of the old Win98 boot disk. If you don't have a Win98 boot disk, you can download one at: http://bootdisk.com

After you have downloaded the file, burn it to a floppy.

Set your bios to boot from the floppy first. Put the floppy into your "A" drive and start your computer. Let it load. Choose "Start Computer without CD-ROM support. This will take you to an "A" prompt. At the prompt, type, "fdisk" without the quotes. Go through the sequence for removing the primary DOS partition. Fdisk will report that there is "no" DOS partition. Hit Esc to restart fdisk and choose "remove non DOS partition.

Now you have no partition on your drive, and all data is gone. If you wish to format the drive in FAT32, restart the machine with the floppy in the drive, choose "Start computer without CD=ROM support, but this time when you come to the "A" promtp, type: format C:

If you wish to format back to an NTFS file structure, the one that Win2K, XP, and Vista use, the remove the floppy from it's drive and put your XP install disk into the CD drive and restart the system. When you come to the window that asks if you want to install XP now, read down a bit and create a partition, and then let XP format that partition. Stay close to your machine because when XP is finished with the format it will start to load Windows. At this point you need to shut down the computer. Your hard drive is now formatted and ready for use.
Reply:msdos porgram and in safemode
Reply:If you ever need to fdisk if your OS is no longer functioning properly, make sure you have a bootdisk with fdisk. If you google boot disk + fdisk there's ready made disks that include fdisk.

A:\fdisk usually enough then;)
Reply:You should be able to just type that into your command prompt for DOS. If you have XP Cd you can just re-install and request XP to format the HD and wipe off all information.
Reply:With Windows XP, you can get a "sort-of" version of DOS, which is what you have to get to, to use the FDisk command. You can get the whole procedure from Microsoft, Article 255867, in case you want a printed copy to follow. It helps to have that, just in case.

Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools and Command Prompt. Assuming you know how to get back to the c:\ prompt, that's where you run your command.

There's no results for it on google of any Windows dll archives and download sites, so I'd be very suspicious.
Reply:look it up on google it has the answer--- if u delete a program file ur going to crash ur pc
Reply:You shouldn't delete any file in that folder unless your absolutely 100% positive its a virus as you can really F up your computer. In other words, don't delete it unless a virus scan does it for you or a professional tells you to.
Reply:run virus scan and chkdsk. if it is not caught by those then dont delete it.
Reply:You should never delete a file unless you know for sure exactly what it is, or has been quarantined by your anti-virus program.

Want to be safe, use what is known as the "Crap Cleaner". I use this software and it is excellent %26amp; free. Never has the software made a mistake and deleted the wrong temp. files or cleaned up the registry and made a mistake. (Plus you can save all registry keys that are cleaned).

Delete the contents but leave the folder. That is just a place the system puts your temporary files.

Deleteing temporary files as a part of disk clean-up should do that for you and should be done periodically anyway.

If you go to http://www.ccleaner.com and download and install and use CCleaner, it will take care of all that kind of things for you.

No problem dude....As the folder says, it's a temporary dump folder..!!! Actually it's good to delete them from time to time cos' they muck up ur hard disk space....... But don't delete anything when there are some programs running, no big deal but, some unsaved docs might be stored there.....
Reply:It would not matter, but any program that saves information into those folders would have to resave them into the folders again, so basically it is pointless unless the account it no longer in use.

Reply:Only if the account Mike no longer exist.

As it is rebooting, Press F10 to get to the Recovery console.

other than that. if you have an older DOS bootdisk with FDISK.EXE on it. you can repartition the whole drive and start over... Good luck.
Reply:Agree with first response. Use the OS disk of the operating system you plan to install. For instance, XP disk. When you first start you computer, press key that will take you to BIOS/CPUSOFTMENU. Inside, don't change things you don't understand, but change the boot order to CD first. Then exit (Yes, saving the changes) and boot. When text appears on the screen saying press any key to boot from CD ROM, press the any key. This is located in between the home row keys. Exactly in the middle of g and h, it's a little hard to see at first. Kidding, but seriously, XP installer will begin, and it will allow you to format before installing. Good Luck.

Will Product Recovery Disk Delete All Files On Both Partiotions (C & D) Toshiba A-200?

Will Product Recovery Disk Delete All Files On Both Partiotions (C %26amp; D) Toshiba A-200?

Will Product Recovery Disk Delete All Files On Both Partiotions (C %26amp; D) Toshiba A-200?
Mostly likely yes it will. However, some recovery disks come with two options, one that erases everything on C %26amp; D, another that preserves D and erases C. If you are unsure, then you should back up your stuff to a CD-R disc or Flash drive prior to beginning the recovery. If your computer is not booting up however, then it is already too late to back up anything, so just call it all a loss and run the recovery.
Reply:Best bet it to delete the D drive,then boot to the recovery disk and do a destructive recovery

How to remove a second installation of a Windows operating system from a partition

Last Review : November 9, 2004

Revision : 1.0

INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to remove a second installation of a Microsoft Windows operating system from a partition that is on your hard disk drive.

MORE INFORMATION

When you have determined that a second Windows folder exists on the same partition as your "working" Windows folder, follow these steps to remove the folder from the partition and to remove the startup selection when you start your computer.

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps. 1. Start the Windows operating system that you want to keep.

2. To determine the Windows folder that you want to keep, click Start, click Run, type %windir%, and then click OK. Remember the folder that is opened. For example, the folder may be C:\Windows.

Note This is your "working" Windows folder. Do not delete or remove this folder from the partition.

3. In Windows Explorer, find the Windows folder that you want to remove.

Important Make sure that this folder is not the folder that you identified as your "working" Windows folder in step 2.

4. Right-click the Windows folder that you want to remove, and then click Delete.

5. Click Yes to confirm the deletion of the folder.

6. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

7. On the Advanced tab, under Startup and Recovery, click Settings. The Startup and Recovery dialog box appears.

8. Under System startup, click Edit to modify the Boot.ini file.

The Boot.ini file opens in Notepad and looks similar to the following:[boot loader]

timeout=30

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partiti...

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WI... Windows XP Professional"

/fastdetect

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WI... Windows XP Home"

/fastdetect

9. On the File menu in Notepad, click Save As, and then save a backup copy of the Boot.ini file that is named Boot.old.

10. On the File menu, click Exit to close the backup copy of the Boot.ini file.

11. In the Startup and Recovery dialog box, under System startup, click Edit to reopen the Boot.ini file.

12. In the [boot loader] section of the Boot.ini file, identify and then delete the line of text for the Windows operating system that you want to remove. For example, if the Windows folder that you removed in step 4 was for the Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition operating system, remove the following line of text from the Boot.ini file:multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)... Windows XP Home"

/fastdetect

13. On the File menu, click Save to save your changes to the Boot.ini file.

14. On the File menu, click Exit to close the Boot.ini file.

15. Click OK to close the Startup and Recovery dialog box.

16. Restart your computer.

To delete a file folder downloaded to C:\Program Files?

by mistake I downloaded the following file folder on to C:\program files( full description is given below)

(1) Type of File-- File Folder. size= 8.41mb

(2) Description-- Package for the Web Stub.

(3)Location--C:\Program Files

please advise me how to delete this file Folder from my PC,(OS-windowsxp ) thank you. plgperera.

To delete a file folder downloaded to C:\Program Files?
Click on start, then click run, then in the bar type C:/ program files click ok. That will open the program files. Look for the files you want to delete but be careful not to delete the wrong one. Find the file and right click on it, then click delete. It usually asks you if you want to send it to the recycle bin, or it might ask you if you are sure that you want to delete it.
Reply:control panel%26gt;add/remove programs.

if that doesn't work. go to help and support and do a system restore, before you downloaded it.
Reply:Normally you cannot delete file directly from Pograme Files unless your programe instruction asked you to do that. If you do that your own then it will be a problem. Because, those file may contain dll file which realted with programe as well. Try to open that folder and find exact application name then go to your control panel look for that programe name and unistall. Then it will be deleted from there. If not then then ONLY go to that folder and delete it. If system warns you then just leave it.

Delete Third Partition And Reclaim To C Drive?
U should be looking for Disk Director by Acronis.

this software is allows u to split/merge/delete/recover

partitions. beside in case of necessity u can change files system.

It's cheaper then PM has more features(like recovery wizard included) and is just more reliable.

anyway, that's just my opinio.

You can format the partition, or delete it, but you can not join it without deleting both the partitions.

You should use a program like partition magic to be able to do that

I have autorun and setup.exe files appearing on my c and d drives, if i delete them they are back on restart.?
One of the most easiest things (well done for once Microsoft) is system restore. If you perodically mark your own points when you know for definate everything is cool, life's good.

But that's for future use.

As for now no setup.exe and autoruns are NOT needed to boot your computer.

Autorun files are usually on CD/DVDs so that they execute when the disk is discovered.

These could (must!) have been put there, by a person, as I know no programs that put an autorun file onto a HD.

Setup.exe are installer packages, for any host of various programs.

You don't know what they are! If you hover over the files if they're reputable then the info pop-up should show a company name.

As for how they got there, copied or downloaded by either a user of your computer, attached media, or from outside.

Options:

1. Ignorance is bliss!

2. Many things.

Delete: logically removes file from the File Allocation Table);

Defrag: physically reorganises the file distribution, any thing not in the FAT will not have its space saved, hence be overwritten.

Repair the FAT: checks that the actual files are the same as what's supposed to be there. This is done in Shell (MSDOS/command prompt)

3. Find out what is recopying the files back and stop it's execution.

If I had your computer I could sort it, but your probably not local
Reply:exe %26amp; setup files are needed to start %26amp; run all the programmes on your computer! if you delete them, your computer will not work properly. as long as you run virus checks regularly, you shouldn't have a problem.
Reply:http://www.liutilities.com/products/wint...
Reply:Try installing Avast! anti virus and Ewido anti trojan. If they say these files are not a problem, then they are legitimate programs.
Reply:Have you checked the startup options in msconfig?

If really worried try "Hijack this".

Why does my Windows XP “Windows Task Manager” still show Page Filing after I delete the page file from C?

I have 1GB of RAM memory that I installed in an attempt to speed up my computer by getting rid of the “Page Fault” interrupts and paging out to “virtual memory” using the slow hard disk page file.

Why does my Windows XP Home “Windows Task Manager” (accessed by CTRL-ALT-DEL keys) Performance TAB still show Page File usage of over 600MB (also shows as ongoing “Page Faults” on the Processes TAB) after I totally delete the pagefile.sys disk file from my Hard Disk?

I deleted the pagefile on the hard disk as follows:

1. Used the START/CONTROL PANEL/SYSTEM path to access the “System Properties” pop-up window, then clicked on the Advanced TAB and then the SETTINGS button in the Performance area.

2. Clicked on the ADVANCED TAB here, then the CHANGE button to access the “Virtual Memory” area where the disk Page File size and location are set up.

3. Selected the C: drive, clicked on the “no paging file” Radio button and then the SET button. Repeat this procedure for all hard d

I have about 60 processes running on my p.c. not sure which ones to delete?

i did what was suggested i.e. trying to delete some, but i wasn't totally sure what it was i was deleted and which then prompted my p.c. show a "restore point" did that, but naturally i'm back where i started with the 60 processes buzzing away. It naturally makes my computer so slow. any help would be much appreciated. e.g. smss.exe-isass.exe.svchost.exe.svchost

I have about 60 processes running on my p.c. not sure which ones to delete?
the best way to limit processes is to determine what is allowed to start when your machine boots. You can safely remove much unneeded material by doing the following:

start-%26gt; run -%26gt; msconfig -%26gt; startup

then go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups which has a list of what can safely be removed from the list. You will probably find quite a bit of it can be removed. Bear in mind that the list is case sensitive, so you need to be mindful of the capitalisation when you compare whats in your list and what results come up at bleepingcomputer.

Then to kill off any processes when the machine is running use http://www.downloadsquad.com/2008/03/13/...

Also, remember to check your start menu's startup folder, and to have a look at the preferences of each program in your system tray , some of which may be tweaked so that they dont start automatically when you start windows.

What are the main files or which files i shouldnt delete in the Local Disk C: Drive?

Im trying to free up space in my C: drive (local disk)

which is currently using mroe than half of its memory.

im trying to do this manually because the System tools dont recognize programs that are good but useless.

therefore

im just trying to find out what are the main programs for my computer (assuming that they are the same as the others)

My computer is a dell with a Pentium 4 Processor and

it runs Windows XP

i just need to know either which files i can delete or which files are core to the computer

please and thank you

What are the main files or which files i shouldnt delete in the Local Disk C: Drive?
If you don't know what the files are doing, deleting them could be catastrophic.

Get a bigger disc drive and copy all of your stuff using True Image with the cloning option. And a disc has no memory, it has storage. Memory is RAM.
Reply:If your HDD is half full, you don't have a problem, and eliminating stuff from it won't produce any noticeable improvement in your computer.

If you go to Control Panel%26gt;Add/Remove Programs (double click) and wait several seconds you will see a list of all programs on your computer. Click on each one in turn and you will see when you last used that program. That should help you decide which to uninstall. I must say you are playing with fire and have little or nothing to gain. My recommendation is to leave things as they are.
Reply:You can't delete any of them. They are all vital to your computer.
Reply:don't delete the folder WINDOWS unless you are 100% sure that it won't hurt your computer (which I doubt)

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp. can i delete stuff from dis folder??

can i use C Cleaner?

or should i just delete them directly ????

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp. can i delete stuff from dis folder??
C Cleaner is fine and yes you can remove the contents within them but not the system folders them selves.

However they should recreate on their own if you accidentally

blow them away.
Reply:Just use Ccleaner, it will take care everything
Reply:CCleaner gr8 use it

no prob if u delete that temp files to

crab apple

Can anyone atll me what will happen if i delete all the files in "C:\Docume~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1... ??

whenever i try to burn the DVD it tells me that my "C:\Docume~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp" if full ... iam just wondering what will happen if i delete all the files in same path !?

Can anyone atll me what will happen if i delete all the files in "C:\Docume~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1... ??
That is probably where the temp dvd images are stored I think you can delete them with no problems.

RJ
Reply:Anything under Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp is fair game for deletion, just don't delete the folder.
Reply:delete and say goodbye to ur computer..........
Reply:sorry, i dun even have the file

but from my guess

it sounds like it might be the contriols for administration in your local usergroup

like in wnidows you have multiple accounts

one or more will be administrator(s)

and from my guess, the operations for that is int hat file

again this is just a guess
Reply:That's where temporary files are stored. Just delete the temp files.
Reply:that is the main documents folder for the administrater and also anyother users profile document run through these folders . don't delete them. you can del. files in the folders but don't del. the folders

I delete files from my C: drive but the memory doesn't increase.?

I recently installed an older version of Nero. When it was uncompatible with Vista I tried to uninstall in the control panel, but it wasn't there. When I manually deleted all of the files associated, the size of my C: drive remains the same. Why if I deleted the files, won't my memory increase to the pre-Nero installation?

I delete files from my C: drive but the memory doesn't increase.?
If you mean the available disk space didn't increase, here are two reasons why that might happen:

1. Files deleted from Windows Explorer (My Computer) may go to the Recycle bin. While there, they're still occupying unavailable space on the disk.

2. Some files, even after being deleted from the Recycle Bin, are kept around to be saved with the next System Restore point. These won't be fully released until System Restore is cleared one cycle AFTER the restore point they're saved in. Among the files that fall into this category are executables (.exe, .dll) which are often quite large.

Hope that helps.
Reply:In addition to the answers above:

It also matters how you deleted it. It may be a simple thing, but if you manually deleted the files did you remember to empty the Recycle Bin? Windows maintains your data (and thus still uses up space) until you empty it.

To do this Right Click on the Recycle Bin on your desktop and Left Click on 'Empty'.
Reply:By convention, 'memory' is the word that refers to the RAM that is installed in your computer.

If you noticed the directory into which the Nero program attempted to install, you might want to have another look at that directory using the command line (Press Win+R; Type:cmd; Press: Enter).

You may also want to look in your user profile's AppData directory.
Reply:Try to find it again in the control panel / add or remove programs.

When we remove any program manually, there still some hide file you can't reach it.

Also I checked Nero had small size only 2.2MB, maybe it removed and you didn't notice
Reply:memory has nothing to do with hard drive space.

maybe you mean that your disk space doesnt increase? if thats the case then it wont, it cant. the max capacity of a drive cannot increase by deleting files.

uninstall control panel??!?! do not do
Reply:also use a temp files and registry cleaner like

ccleaner
