Why do I have 2 C:drives & can I delete one ?

My computer has been acting very slow and I have discovered that somehow I have gained another c:drive. One is called local harddrives (c:), the other is called local disk (c:). They are exact duplicates. Since this has happened I cannot use the drop down address bar to navigate. How does this happen? Is it the reason for the speed of my machine? Is it OK to delete one - if so, how? Any advice would be wonderful - small words for stupid people please. Many thanks, Joanna
